The primary drivers for the hype associated with Cloud are, well let’s be honest, analyst firms.
Do you remember this January 2010 prediction? “By 2012, 20-percent of businesses will own no IT assets.”
A major analyst predicted that pervasive Cloud adoption would cause 20-percent of the worlds firms to shut down their internal data centers due to migration to the Cloud. To be fair, this particular analyst was not the only one predicting that Cloud was going to be the best thing to hit IT since the rise of the virtual machine.
This same level of over-statement and hype is what has fueled the newest, direr predictions of “troughs of disillusionment” and “inflated expectations” around Cloud…
